Meccano Ltd. Job Nu- 50307, Sales No. 307, Item No. 50113, Job No. 50113, Date: 2-12-77, Title: "Avengers" Gift Set, Sub Title: Steed's Jaguar 
Dinky Toys' 1:36 scale "Big Cat" was introduced in 1977 as No. 219 (white with Leyland decals). It resurfaced in 1979 with black cat decals on a white body with red Stickers. 
Originally planned as a green model Steed's Jaguar XJ12 coup& "NWK 60P" of the New Avengers TV series was never officially produced and raises a few questions for which there may not be sufficient answers. 
Introduced in catalogue No. 14 - the last one from Binns Road in 1979 - as No. 113 together with Purdey's TR7 (No. 112) contrary to the TR7 the Jaguar obviously didn't make it due to the closure of the Binns Road factory on November 30th, 1979. The hand of doom had struck and even cost-cutting production in Hong Kong didn't helg. A couple of pre-production prototypes of No. 113 however escaped to Europe to be shown around by salesmen, some even in boxes, and 50 roughly painted models remained forgotten at the Hong Kong premises until bought (together with other stuff) by Mark Felton 15 years later. When buying the old Dinky stock Felton didn't even look at what he had bought and discovered only later what was in the trade boxes. 
So what do we know for certain and what's speculation? The main question being 'What's all the fuss about?' 
1. All known Steed Jaguars (including dummies) have black baseplates saying Dinky TOYS JAGUAR XJ5.3C MADE IN HONG KONG. 
2. The finished pre-production models are painted a metallic blue (some say with a slight turquoise tint) and are decorated with broad golden stripes, a rather pimped version of an already existing model. A Steed figurine was at the wheel, although unfinished versions came without figurine and without stripes. 
3. Inspite of being labelled Steed's Jaguar from the TV series no model had the characteristic registration "NWK 60P", a serious omission caused probably - like the wrong colour - by Copyright problems. 
4. The early models all had silver painted metal headlights, later so called Code 3 reproductions came with jewelled plastic headlights. (See COLLECT TOYS!) These models had also slightly different wheel arches and a more metallic paint. 
5. At least two differently styled genuine boxes for No. 113 are known to exist plus various do-it-yourself jobs  A complete gift set No. 307 has never surfaced so far, not even a fake one.
